Hello, I’m Kerry Parker-Wray, Marketing Manager for Flooring, Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs.
When Sika launch products we like to make a big splash, this time however we don’t want to get anybody wet, in fact we want to keep the water out!
The waterproofing of bridge decks is a fundamental and vital part of extending and enhancing the life of a bridge structure. As market leaders in waterproofing and refurbishment it was only a matter of time that Sika entered this important market sector.
Recently Sika has achieved the BBA-HAPAS (Highway Authorities Product Approval Scheme) certification for its Sikalastic bridge deck waterproofing system – following a successful trial project at Belton Lane Bridge in Grantham.
How does it work?
Once the substrate has been levelled out and primed the new Sikalastic 841ST which can also bridge gaps (not massive craters), is sprayed applied in pretty much any temperature that the great British weather throws at us. Once this has dried which takes seconds, Sika have a fabulous hot melt pellet product that is scattered over the system prior to the final road surface being installed which achieves a fully bonded substrate and asphalt, its adhesion and shear strength certified to ETA 033.
The BBA was on site inspecting throughout the entire installation evaluating the work and performance, satisfied that the system, manufacture , specification and performance meets the exact standards Sika is now in receipt of the certificate.
This certification provides highway engineers with performance, design and installation data which proves invaluable in the specification and planning processes giving them design quality assurance from a brand that they trust.
Sika have also produced a video showcasing this product being utilised on a podium car park please checkout our YouTube channel link below to watch this system in action.
