Alex Burman, Product Manager for Waterproofing at Sika Limited.
Sika is a company that continually strives to improve and develop construction industry skills and knowledge. In these days when we are experiencing ever more extreme weather, land resources are becoming scarce and legislation is forcing tighter standards, it is important to keep abreast of the latest waterproofing solutions, innovations and best practice.
We at Sika have therefore developed a range of waterproofing courses and CPDs designed to inform those in the industry of how Sika’s full range of waterproofing products can be used to overcome the challenges we all face.
At the Sika Training Academy, based in Welwyn Garden City, you can attend a Full range Waterproofing Couse which will give you:
- An overview of BS8102:2009 – Codes of Practice for Protection of Below Ground Structures Against Water from the Ground, what it means and how it should be applied.
- Explain what a Waterproofing Design Specialist is
- Show you the range of Sika products and where each fits into BS8102
- Some practical demonstrations of key products and hands-on use of them
- How and where to use different waterproofing solutions
…all in one day.
The Academy also houses the Sika-1 Render Course and SikaProof Membrane Course. These are designed specifically for contractors who want to join our Registered Contractor Scheme for those products. These are very much about being training on the practical use of these products, including the do’s and dont’s that often catch people out. Work wear is recommended for these courses.
Outside the Academy our experienced Specification Team are able to offer local CPDs that discuss the use of waterproofing solutions to achieve the latest requirements of BS8102, the NHBC and more. These 1 – 2 hour sessions are typically held at your offices and allow staff to attend without taking up of their valuable time.
On site, Sika can even offer product demonstrations to support planned or ongoing installations. We want to help the users of our products to get the best out of them, and the on-site demonstrations are designed to achieve this.
